Touted as one of the most controversial Australian artists of the 80's, avant-garde poet and dramaturge, Christopher Barnett abruptly took off to France winning numerous followers and admirers. Wendy Harmer calls him a “beacon on light” for her generation, an innovator with an iconoclast perspective. Many believe he is one of our greatest living writers. Adelaide filmmaker Anne Tsoulis found Barnett in Nantes. Her documentary aims to recognise him as one of our great artists. These Heathen Dreams is an intimate portrait of Barnett's life and philosophy. Combining archival footage dating back to the '60s with contemporary observational documentation and text from Barnett's writings, it is a poignant and inspiring study of the power of both art and political activism.
